European Cetacean Society Conference 2026
Every year the European Cetacean Society organises a conference that brings together researchers, practictioners, and marine mammal enthusiasts for an exchange on the latest scientific findings and advances. The 37th annual ECS conference was held in Dundee, Scotland from 22 to 24 April 2026.
The theme of the conference was “Basics to Benefits”, highlighting not only the importance of fundamental science, but also how these insights can be translated into meaningful conservation action.
Odyssea president, Dr Anna Schleimer, took the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and collaborators, while also laying the groundwork for exciting new projects ahead.
A special highlight was seeing Prof. Phil Hammond, Anna’s former PhD supervisor, receive the prestigious Mandy McMath Conservation Award, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to marine mammal science.
